Questions & Helpful Nuggets on Estate Sales:

Throw nothing away.  Keep what you want, leave the rest in place.

A full house brings in shoppers.  The more they have to look at, the longer they shop.  Include items from friends and family to fill the home if needed.  The more items plus the more diversity equals a broader range of shoppers.

Plan a successful sale by scheduling.  First schedule a consultation as early as possible, as we are typically booked out weeks in advance.  Then realize a well attended and profitable sale requires time to prepare, price and present.

Maintain manuals, sales receipts, recent or previous appraisals, vehicle registration and historical information whenever possible.

If selling the house during this timeframe, have printed information available during the sale.

Notify all friends and family to attend and to 'spread the word'.

Just as it takes time to prepare a sale, it takes time to wrap up.  Typically it takes 3 to 4 days to ensure all sold items & work oriented goods are removed from the house.

The Aftermath!  Not all items will sell.  A plan needs to be discussed prior to the sale on what to do with the remaining goods.

Don't Throw Anything Away!!!

Something you will hear over and over.  Some examples to rethink 'trash':

  • Broken, Chipped, Cracked China - mosaic artist
  • Pantyhose - hypoallergenic and great for pillow stuffing
  • Old Makeup - pigments for artists
  • Mismatched, Missing, Broken Jewelry - arts community
  • Strange Old Clothing - theatre community
  • Vintage Clothing - huge trend for younger generation
  • Old Bedding/Pillows - pets
  • Old Sheets - plant covers, painting project
